ABSTRACT

This paper takes the movie "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons" as an example to explore the characteristics and strategies of English subtitles translation. Firstly, it analyzes the common characteristics of English subtitles translation, including cultural differences conveyance, balance between colloquialism and formality, subtitle duration, and reading speed. Then, from the perspective of theoretical framework, it discusses translation strategies, including the choice between literal translation and free translation, context adaptation strategy, language style conversion strategy, and more. Subsequently, through specific case analysis in "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons", the practical application of English subtitles translation is examined, and research findings are summarized, along with recommendations for English subtitles translation strategies, providing a reference for further research.
