An extension of the general variational principle of transport theory

Abstract

A variational principle is obtained for the Boltzmann transport equation in the presence of a magnetic field and modified by boundaries, when the standard formulation of Kohler breaks down because of the lack of microscopic reversibility. The connexion with entropy production is discussed.
