Abstract
It is well known that virtually all medications have side effects and the manufacturing companies document such in the leaflets attached with the packed medications. All packages of medicines whether capsules, eye drops, tablets or injections contain these leaflets that clearly outline the
potential side effects amongst many other pieces of information. The use of the medication lies in its safety, usefulness and efficacy weighed against those side effects. We report a case of a side effect of an oral medication which we strongly consider was the cause of the severe sore throat and pharyngitis of a 59-year-old male who had been on the over-the-counter self-prescribed medication. This report seeks to raise awareness by drawing
the attention of physicians in resource-constrained settings where regulations over prescribed drugs are often un-adhered to be conversant with the side effects of prescription drugs, take a comprehensive drug history and properly educate their patients accordingly.

Key words: Attention, Eye drop, Medications, Pharyngitis, Prescription drugs misuse, Side effects, Sore throat
