Abstract

The paper considers the possibility of using saponite clay as a raw material for producing a sorbent for treatment of wastewater from heavy metals of metallurgical enterprises. A method of sorbent production on the basis of saponite cake is described. Acid-base properties of saponite clay at all stages of sorbent production are determined. Mineral and chemical composition of raw materials used in the work was determined. The properties of sorbent samples obtained under different modes of heat treatment, including mechanical and chemical characteristics, have been investigated. High efficiency of extraction of copper (II) ions from solution causes the necessity of studying the sorption properties of saponite sorbent with respect to other metal cations.
