Abstract
The status of the "flowed" layer on glass, quartz, and similar materials which have been ground or polished is unsatisfactory. The present paper calls attention to a number of phenomena that seem to bear on this subject, and might serve as starting points for interesting researches. It is believed that interesting relevant observations have been made by a number of people, who could contribute to a symposium, and by so doing make clear how much agreement or disagreement there is on the subject, and so prepare the field for future investigators.
