A generalization of kinetic ponderomotive effects

Abstract

The plasma response to electrostatic travelling wave packets with a slowly varying envelope is investigated, including dynamical friction between electrons and ions. A kinetic diffusion equation and, therefrom, a new set of macroscopic equations is derived which includes current and magnetic field generation due to friction and wave momentum transfer.
