    The applicability of the porous flow model to volcanoes has also been the subject of debate. Several authors have highlighted various problems and limitations of this model, such as the perturbation of the shape by accumulation of ash falls and the Dupuit approximation which is not valid in the vent region (Wadge and Francis, 1982; Wood, 1982). However, ash falls are mostly excluded in the case of Cerberus Tholi and the majority of topographic profiles usually satisfy the Dupuit approximation given the slopes of Cerberus Tholi.
