Local application of tranexamic acid is an effective treatment for stomal bleeding. Lorna De Bourg and colleagues report

LONG-TERM USE of parenteral nutrition results in intestinal failure-associated liver disease in 40-60 per cent of patients. This disease can progress to cirrhosis and portal hypertension (Starr andHand 2002), which may lead to the development of collateral vessels (varices) between the portal and the systemic circulation.
