A study of nurses’ knowledge of the UKCC code of conduct

Lawrence Whyte Acting Head of Training, Development, Rampton Hospital Authority
Retford; Martin Gajos Senior Lecturer, Flexible Learning, School of Health and Community Studies, Sheffield Hallam University

The nurses’, midwives’ and health visitors’ legislation of 1979 and 1992 uses the word professional’ in many sections. Associated statutory instruments also use the word in relation to the conduct of nurses (The Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Professional Conduct) Rules 1993 Approval Order 1993(9}). The activity of nursing has, therefore, a legal claim to the status of a profession.
