Animal Ethics

The following information was supplied relating to ethical approvals (i.e., approving body and any reference numbers):

Samples were collected in a humane and ethical manner following accepted conventions at the time of collection (i.e., 2013). Specifically, sampling protocols outlined by the American Society of Mammologists (Sikes et al. 2011). Trained and experienced USDA forest service (USFS) employees handled and collected samples on USFS lands as part of a larger habitat monitoring program, and we acquired samples under this program for the study. The USFS did not have an established institutional animal care and use committee at the time of sampling. Because samples were collected by federal employees on federal lands under another project, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee review board issued a waiver from an animal care and use protocol.

DNA Deposition

The following information was supplied regarding the deposition of DNA sequences:

Sequence data was deposited in the NCBI SRA: accession number SRP067348

Data Deposition

The following information was supplied regarding data availability:

Scripts to process the data are publicly available thru GitHub: https://github.com/nextgenusfs/mhc_cluster

Funding

The project was supported by a grant from the Northeastern States Research Cooperative and funding from the USDA Forest Service. The funders had no role in study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript.

Before adding feedback, consider if it can be asked as a question instead, and if so then use the Question tab. Pointing out typos is fine, but authors are encouraged to accept only substantially helpful feedback.
