Presentation

Great toe pain with limited range of motion of the hallux MTP joint. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is hallux MTP joint osteoarthritis with asymmetric joint space narrowing, subchondral sclerosis, and osteophytes, including a prominent osteophyte at the dorsal aspect of the hallux metatarsal head (best seen on the lateral view).

Case Discussion

This is a classic appearance of hallux rigidus with a prominent dorsal osteophyte limiting dorsiflexion at the hallux MTP joint.
