Illies (1963) assigned this genus to the subfamily Leptoperlinae. Based on the revision of Australian Gripopterygidae (McLellan 1971), I see no reason for changing his conclusion. The wings in the Australian Leptoperlinae, like those of Notoperla have no fork in Rs and Cu1 and the hindwing has five anal veins. The male genitalia in Leptoperlinae, particularly in Riekoperla, are much like that of Notoperla.
