Tropidocoris Schummel, 1828: 65. Unavailable name. Synonymized by Schummel (1835: 91) with Clinocoris Hahn, 1834.

Clinocoris Hahn, 1834: 70. Type species by subsequent designation (Kirkaldy 1909: xxxii): Cimex ferrugator Fabricius, 1794 (= Cimex ferrugatus Fabricius, 1787). Junior homonym of Clinocoris Fallén, 1829 (Cimicidae). Synonymized by Stål (1876: 114).

Sastragala (non Amyot & Serville, 1843): Fieber (1860: 78; 1861: 327). Misidentification (Stål 1864: 54).

Elasmostethus (non Fieber, 1860): Lethierry & Severin (1893: 255). Misidentification (Oshanin 1906: 168).

Pseudostollia Breddin, 1901: 65. Type species by original designation: Acanthosoma delicatula Walker, 1867. Synonymized by Kumar (1974: 48).

Galasastra Breddin, 1903: 205. Type species by monotypy: Galasastra salebrosa Breddin, 1903. Synonymized by Kumar (1974: 48).

Grossaria Kumar, 1974: 42, 47. Type species by original designation: Acanthosoma vicinum Uhler, 1861. New subjective synonym.

Grossaria: Göllner-Scheiding 2006: 178 (catalogue, Palaearctic).

Discussion. The genus Grossaria was proposed for Acanthosoma vicinum by Kumar (1974) based on the examination of a single male (the lectotype). The author expressed that Grossaria is similar to Elasmucha but it differs from the latter genus in the shorter spine of the abdominal ventrite III that reaches only to the posterior ends of the hind coxae (it reaches at least to anterior ends of the hind coxae in Elasmucha) and in unspecified characters of the male genitalia.

Reexamination of the lectotype of A. vicinum, including its male genitalia, revealed that it is a male of Elasmucha dorsalis. The spine of the abdominal ventrite III of the lectotype was correctly described by Uhler (1861) and does not differ from that of other species of Elasmucha; the difference noted by Kumar (1974) is merely ostensible, resulting from the fact that the specimen is broken between the metathorax and the abdomen (cf. Fig. 2). We disagree with Kumar (1974) that the male genitalia support placement of A. dorsalis in a genus of its own, and therefore we propose the following new subjective synonymy: Elasmucha Stål, 1864 = Grossaria Kumar, 1974, syn. nov.

As a consequence of the new genus level synonymy proposed above, the following new combination will be necessary: Elasmucha vicina (Uhler, 1861), comb. nov.
