Ophryodendron halacaridis

Description

Corethria halacaridis (Dons, 1943)

= Ophryodendron halacaridis Dons, 1943

Record on halacarid mites: This species was described (Dons 1943) from halacarid mites collected near Tromsø, Norway. Jankowski (2007) has indicated that this species was common on halacarid mites in the Barents Sea near Murmansk (Russia).

Remarks: It is quite possible that the species is specific to halacarid mites. However, Dons (1943) has discussed the close similarity of C. halacaridis with C. sertulariae (Wright, 1858) from hydroids and thus the specimens of Dons need further investigation.
