Genus Meteuthria Thiele, 1912
Type species. Euthria martensi Strebel, 1905 by original designation.
Several species were included by different authors in the genus Meteuthria. Dell (1990) included “ Anomacme ” multituberculata Castellanos et al., 1987 in Meteuthria because of some similarity of the radula of his new subspecies of Meteuthria (i.e. M. multituberculata rossiana). The radula of “ A.” multituberculata is illustrated here (Figs 10 H–I) and it is very different from the types of both genera: Meteuthria (i.e. M. martensi) and Anomacme (i.e. A. smithi, Figs 10B, C).
The distinctive protoconch and the presence of a very small rachidian (not illustrated by Dell 1990: 169 fig. 296) indicate that neither “ Anomacme ” multituberculata nor the subspecies M. multituberculata rossiana are referable to either Meteuthria or Anomacme. Only two species (M. martensi and M. batialis n. sp.) are here considered as belonging to Meteuthria.
