A closer look at the optional Class 5 prefix in Mbugwe
Description
This presentation seeks to explore what has been termed an optional i- prefix on some Class 5 roots in Mbugwe (Bantu F34). We will examine some previous analyses of Class 5 nouns in Mbugwe and the distribution of this initial i- as attested in my data, before I present my hypothesis that the i- prefix is an augment.
