Etmopterus spinax

Description

Etmopterus spinax (Linnaeus 1758) —Velvet belly lantern shark

Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Etmopterus spinax by Aguillar et al. (2018: 81).

Distribution. Western Baltic Sea, northern North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic: Iceland and Norway to Senegal.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (LC: 1 December 2008); Med. (LC: 25 March 2016). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Very rare. Low priority for conservation action.
