Description

These are the slides of the LIBER 2020 ONLINE workshop: Transitioning Scholarly Journals to Open Access: A Guide to Transformative Agreements that took place on Tuesday 23 June 2020.

This workshop was organised by the LIBER Open Access Working Group in close collaboration with the Open Access 2020 Initiative (OA2020) and the ESAC Initiative Data Analytics Working Group and hosted by:

  • Sofie Wennström, Stockholm University Library, Chair of  the LIBER OA Working Group
  • Colleen Campbell, Max Planck Digital Library & OA 2020
  • Paul Johnson, Reading University Library

About the workshop

The workshop program was optimized around the framework of LIBER’s Five Open Access Principles for Negotiations with Publishers. Specifically, the workshop aimed to be an opportunity to understand how the principles have been put into practice in preparing and negotiating successful transformative agreements and, given the rapidly evolving landscape and the benchmarks reached so far, gather input from workshop participants on how the principles might be updated.

The first part of the workshop focussed specifically on the data gathering and analytics work underlying negotiation strategies, in line with the principle that licensing and open access go hand-in-hand and that there is enough money in the system. In the second part of the workshop, we reviewed how the LIBER principles and other guidelines are driving the transition of scholarly journals to open access through transformative agreements and hear about the latest trends and approaches to publisher negotiations.

Input from participants about the updated principles of negotiations for agreements with publishers about Open Access was collected in this padlet.
