Finca Los Escuderos: rainfed almond study site

Description

The Soil and Water Conservation Group of CEBAS-CSIC presents case study 1 of the Diverfarming project. In this case study we transformed a rainfed agrosystem with traditional almond tree monoculture into a diversified system, in order to increase ecosystem and economic benefits.

Part of the work is carried out in the field following an experimental design, all the decisions are made in a participatory framework, involving different stakeholders. This is one out of 13 case studies on diversification established at different European climatic zones. In addition, the project incorporates 9 more case studies with a long history of sustainable practices to evaluate in the long term the ecosystem services provided. The work in the case study 1 is carried out in collaboration with the group of Enzymology, Bioremediation and Management of Organic Waste of the CEBAS-CSIC, ASAJA, DML and UPCT.
