Approach to Lympadenopathy: Case Report and Literature Review

Lymph nodes are the members of the lymphoid system, which are the main elements of the body’s defense mechanisms and they play an important role in defense against foreign substances entering the body in healthy individuals. They are found in various places in the body and are usually in chains. Any antigenic stimulation can cause activation and growth in lymph nodes. Abnormal enlargement of lymph nodes is called lymphadenopathy. The evaluation of lymphadenopathy that can be due to various reasons is important to discriminate between pathological growths, to establish early diagnosis and early treatment. In this article we revised the approach to lymphadenopathy with a case presentation.

Lenfadenopatiye Yaklaşım: Vaka Sunumu ve Literatürün Gözden Geçirilmesi

Lenf bezleri vücut savunma mekanizmasının ana öğesi olan lenfoid sistemin bir elemanı olup, sağlıklı bireylerde vücuda giren yabancı maddelere karşı savunmada önemli rol oynar. Vücudun muhtelif yerlerinde bulunurlar ve genellikle zincirler hâlindedirler. Herhangi bir antijenik uyarı lenf bezlerinde aktivasyon ve büyümeye neden olur. Lenf bezlerinin anormal boyutlarda büyümesi lenfadenopati olarak adlandırılır. Birçok nedene bağlı olarak gelişebilen lenfadenopatilerin değerlendirilmesinde belli özelliklere dikkat edilerek patolojik büyümelerin ayırdedilmesi, erken tanı ve tedaviye erken başlanması açısından önem taşır. Bu makalede, vaka sunumu ile birlikte lenfadenopatiye yaklaşım gözden geçirilmiştir.
