Evaluation of The Activities of A Breastfeeding Counselling Clinic

The reasons for counselling of the mothers were the inability to breastfeed their babies (39 %), concerns about inadequacy of her breast milk (28 %), insufficient weight gain (20 %), and excessive crying, and restlessness of their babies (10 %). Majority of the mothers (95.6 %) were informed about the mechanism of breastfeeding, composition of the breast milk, breast care, technique of breastfeeding, pumping, and storing breast milk, and 94.4 % them gained, and improved their skills about milking their breast manually or with vacuum device, complementary formula feeding, and correct positioning of the baby for breastfeeding. Mothers (84.4 %) were supported psychologically so as to gain their self-confidence. The applicant mothers were followed-up at least once (44.9 %) or two times (55.1 %). Of all infants 35.2 % were noted that they were successfully breast-fed.

Conclusion: A breast-feeding counselling clinic may help to solve problems encountered during lactation.

Emzirme Danışmanlığı Birimine Başvuran Annelerin ve Bebeklerin İncelenmesi

Annelerin % 39’u bebeğin emmemesi, % 28’i bebeğin doymadığı konusunda endişe etmesi, % 20’si bebeğinde yetersiz kilo alımı, % 10’u bebeğindeki ağlama ve huzursuzluk yakınması ile başvurmuşlardı. Annelerin % 95.6’sı emzirmenin nasıl olduğu, anne sütünün yapısı, meme bakımı, emzirme tekniği, fincanla besleme tekniği, elle süt sağma ve saklama teknikleri hakkında bilgilendirilmiş; % 94,4’üne elle süt sağma, fincanla besleme, emzirme ekleyicisiyle besleme, bebeği memeye yerleştirme hakkında beceri kazandırılmıştır. Annelerin % 84,4’ü kendine güven kazanması için desteklenmiştir. Başvuranların % 44,9’u bir kez, % 55,1’i en az iki kez izleme alınmıştır. Takip edilen annelerin % 35,2’sinin bebeğini başarı ile emzirdikleri kaydedilmiştir.

Sonuç: Emzirme danışmanlığı hizmetleri anne sütü ile beslenme sırasında karşılaşılan sorunların çözümüne katkıda bulunmaktadır.
