Abstract

Congenital diaphragmatic hernias (CDH) and diaphragmatic eventrations (CDE) are the most common congenital lesions of the diaphragm. Paraeosophageal hernias and crural eventrations are very rare in children. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a developmental defect in the diaphragm that allows abdominal viscera to herniate into the thoracic cavity, thereby interfering with normal lung development. In the diaphragmatic eventration, diaphragma is intact, however impaired musculature leads to contractility disorders. Although some of the mechanical effects of both diseases are similar, the incidence of pulmonary hypertension is low and the degree of associated pulmonary hypoplasia is minimal. Thus, the presentation is less dramatic and usually somewhat delayed and the prognosis is significantly better.

In this article we summarized the general aspects and the endoscopic treatment of the congenital diaphragmatic lesions and have described two novel techniques for Morgagni hernia (Full-Thickness Abdominal Wall Fixation Without Skin İncision Technique) and diaphragmatic eventration (Double Purse String Suturing Plication Technique). And we stressed the importance of the excision of the serosal membrane on the defect margins.
