ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the simultaneous national and religious revival that occurred in Belarus after the fall of the USSR. The role of the language policy conducted by the Catholic and the Orthodox Churches in facilitating (or preventing) the national unity of Belarusians highlighted the use of language in constructing national identities and papering over differences.
