Abstract
Introduction: The Tunnel technique is a
conservative preparation design to treat proximal caries with limited extension
as an alternative method to the conventional class ll
preparation. Effectiveness of caries removal is a problem in this method which
could lead to secondary caries .Using DIAGNOdent
(laser fluorescence) may decrease chance of remained caries. On the other hand,
Photoactivated disinfection (PAD) in which a
photosensitizing dye is irradiated with a specific wavelength could be used to
decrease bacterial amount of affected tissues.
The aim of the study: Using PAD and DIAGNOdent to increase success of Tunnel technique.
Material and methods:
Two groups of 20 extracted human teeth with limited proximal caries had Tunnel
technique preparation. In first group DIAGNOdent with
long periodontal tip used for caries detection during preparation and samples
received a PAD treatment protocol. Second group as control had no special
treatment and prepared without using DIAGNOdent and
PAD. Samples sectioned for histological evaluation and had analyzed for
bacterial content of remained tissues.
Results: In first group remained infected tissues
and bacterial amount was statistically less than control group (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Combination of two laser
application, PAD and DIAGNOdent , could increase the success rate of Tunnel preparation
technique.
