Authors Abstract
Content
The new worldwide requirements for environmental control, concerning pollutant emissions, noise level and fuel economy, are demanding the development of more sophisticated sets from engines and components manufacturers.
With respect to piston ring, the requirements are: friction force reduction; increasing of the efficiency of blow-by retention and oil scraping; and increasing of functional stability of piston rings during engine lifetime.
In this study we will compare two ring packs tested in a 2.0 l Otto cycle engine where emergent technologies were used in top and third rings, in order to improve their functional properties.
