Water vapour could be a safer and cheaper alternative to hydrogen plasma for effective passivation of defects in thin film silicon solar cells. In situ observations can simplify and speed up investigation of interactions between silicon and water vapour. We present a concept of in situ measurements at vacuum, at atmospheric and higher pressures as well as an apparatus for this purpose. Ball craterer [1] as a novel approach to contact pn junction of thin film solar cells is described.
