Title Sadi dung ai zaunyi (The Promise of a Loving Deer Mother) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Once upon a time, there was a mother deer and fawn deer. Mother deer had three fawns. They all stayed in a forest happily. Mother deer had a thought, "In this wood, we are safe to live. There won't be any hindrance in this place. My children and I are so secure staying in this forest." A hunter set a trap in that forest one day. Mother deer went into the woods to search for food for her children. She was caught in the trap that the hunter set. She struggled to escape the trap but could not run it. She was trapped in the hunter's casting net. Even though she was caught, her breasts were tightened due to her milk. She thought, "Oh my! I have to feed my children milk." At that time, the hunter thought, "Tomorrow, something will be caught in my trap." He went and saw a mother deer was caught in his trap. Thus the hunter was so joyful. "Alright. I have now got what I desire for the whole year." Then he prepared to kill the mother deer, "I will kill it and take the meat." The mother deer requested the hunter, "Don't kill me. Please don't kill me yet. I will tell you something." The hunter said, "What do you want to say? Say it quickly." "Please don't kill me and release me. I need to feed my children milk. My breasts are so tight, and my babies can be so hungry. I came out to look for food for them," said the mother deer. She continued, "Therefore, I will go back to feed my children and come back. I promise you." The hunter disagreed, "Oh no! You lie to me. Your reason cannot be. I can't let you go." "I didn't lie. I will truly come back to you. If I don't return to you, you can trap me and kill me," promised the mother deer. Then the hunter believed, "Alright. Can." He let her go. He took away the net and let her go. After release, the mother deer went back to her children and fed them her milk. The fawn deers were full and fell asleep after drinking their mother's milk. She left her babies after they slept soundly. While walking away, she talked to her children in her mind, "My children, you all live safely. I cannot meet you all in this life. I promise to a human." "I promised to a hunter because I want to feed you my milk." "Therefore, you all stay together happily without fighting each other." She left the message in her mind. After that, the mother deer went black to where she was trapped, as she promised. The hunter was there already. "I came back. If you want to kill me, you can kill me now. I have done feeding my children," said the mother deer. The hunter felt sorry for her. "Oh! Oh! She did this for her children. She is such a mother who loves her children dearly." "If I slaughter like this mother, it cannot be, and I am the one who have sin. Furthermore, her children will be motherless and become orphans," the hunter thought this, and he felt repent then he did not kill the mother deer. The mother deer kept her promise, so the hunter did not finish her off and let her go. "You go back and live with your children happily. Even though I trapped you, I will not take you. You can go," said the hunter and released the mother deer.
