La Crist del Marxismo

Abstract

The immediate reaction to a title such as The Crisis of Marxism is to inquire as to which one. Although Marxism in Europe is now in the middle of a crisis as a result of Eurocommunism and the anti-Marxism that has followed the explosion of the Gulag on contemporary political consciousness, this is nothing new. During this century Marxism has always been in crisis: it was in crisis in 1968 when Russian tanks restored law and order in Prague; in the early 1960s, when the Sino-Soviet split destroyed the myth of a monolithic communist movement; in 1956, when the Hungarian revolution revealed the nature of Russian imperialism; in 1953 when the East Berlin workers challenged “their” state; in 1948.
