1. In southwest China I mean roughly what G. William Skinner in The City in Late Impérial China (Stanford : Stanford University Press, 1977) has called the Yungui macroregion. My area, therefore, includes the entire province of Yunnan, Guizhou Province south of the Wu River, as well as Xichang Préfecture and the Liangshan Semiautonomous Yi Région of Sichuan Province.
