Abstract

The increasing number of visits to Baduy customary areas poses a threat to their customary environment. This paper aims to provide an overview of the form of public participation based on the cultural values of the Baduy indigenous people in efforts to preserve the environment in their area. As it is known that the cultural values of the Baduy indigenous people are ancestral values that make the Baduy indigenous people live in harmony with nature and the environment. The application of cultural values is a form of public participation by the Baduy indigenous people, so that they can assist the government in the decision-making process. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach by conducting interviews with 40 informants who are indigenous peoples and Baduy customary institutions, informants have also met the requirements to become resource persons for this research. The values of the Baduy people are grouped into four, namely, the values of life, the values of traditions and beliefs, the values of maintaining the balance of nature, and the values of togetherness/mutual cooperation. The cultural value in maintaining the balance of nature that has been carried out by the Baduy indigenous people is about how they carry out their daily lives, work side by side with nature, and the architecture of buildings in their area which is still natural without using chemicals. These cultural values are still carried out by the Baduy indigenous people as a form of public participation that runs optimally. This is a recommendation for the government in formulating policies related to nature conservation.
