Abstract

Despite effective tools in signal and image processing, traditional wavelets methods lose the ability to process multi-dimensional data. In this paper, we describe a new class of multidimensional representation systems, called shearlets. Similar with wavelets, this new representation can be associated with multiresolution analysis. The shearlet representation provides a more effective tool for the geometric representation of multidimensional data. We introduce the affine systems with composite dilations for the shearlet construction and give several examples of shearlets.
