Abstract: Synthesis of 4-methyl-5,5-dialkyl-2-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-carbonitriles is reported herein, using potassium carbonate as a base in an ionic liquid (BMIM, BF4) as solvent. The system ionic liquid and base can be recovered and reused.
