An Experimental Study of Catastrophic Loss of Vacuum for RHIC DRD-009 in MAGCOOL
- Brookhaven National Lab. (BNL), Upton, NY (United States)
A heat load on the order of 20 kilowatts, 0.17 watt/cm2, was identified for the loss of vacuum experiment of RHIC dipole magnet DRD-009 in MAGCOOl. In response this enormous heat load, the pressure and the temperature increase quickly. In approximately three minutes, 50% of the single phase cooling helium was vented to prevent the helium containment from over pressured.
