Abstract
One hundred specimens of Barbony(Mullus barbatus) marine fish were collected from the Mediterranean Sea at Port- Said city. Four species of helminth parasites were revealed from the examined Barbony fish. Larvae of anisakid Hysterothylacium spp. were the dominant species in the intestine of fish with highest rate of infection and intensity values (70% and 12-20 larvae / fish). Adult anisakid Goezia spp. isolated from the stomach of fish at rate of infection 40% and intensity 10- 15 worms / fish. Acanthocephalan Serrasentis sagittifer was collected from the intestine and body cavity of Barbony fish, while the metacestode trypanorhynch Nybelinia spp. was recovered from the wall and lumen of stomach of the examined fish with rate of infection of 35% and 11% and intensity of 4-10 and 3-6 parasites / fish, respectively. The significance of the isolated parasitic helminthes to fish and humans was discussed with reviewing some methods of control for the parasites of public health concern in fish.
