Abstract

Development is a process of social change, not merely a set of policies and programs instituted for some specific results but the result of society's capacity to organize human energies and productive resources in order to meet the challenges and opportunities that life presents society with all the times. The academe plays a critical role in development by providing the human capital that may respond to the needs of society. The Eastern Visayas State University, through its extension services unit, commits to promote self-reliance and productivity among the community youth, the unemployed and underemployed adults, working men and women from low income communities, differently-abled persons and their organizations and communities through continuous education, transfer of knowledge and technology, and shares the University resources.

Keywords: development, academe, socio-economic development, convergence, extension services, empowerment
