Abstract

Plasma impulse CVD is a powerful coating technique to prepare thick and ultra pure coatings of quartz glass. Complicated refractive index profiles can be made by doping with additives like germanium or fluorine so that special new optical components can be made. As examples, DFSM fibers which have a continuous index profile and rugate filters with sinusoidal index modulation and high damage threshold have been demonstrated.
