Abstract

This research aims to reduce symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder (F.91.3) in child subjects by implementing Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy intervention. The subject in this intervention was an 8 year old boy with a diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder. Oppositional defiant disorder is given to children who do not meet all the criteria for a behavior disorder, but have general tantrum behavior, refuse to carry out orders from other people, or deliberately behave to upset other people. Oppositional defiant disorders can be the cause of behavioral disorders in the future. This research uses a quantitative experimental method with a single subject A-B design. The A-B design is a basic single-subject experimental research design that is based on baseline logic. Baseline logic indicates a repeated measurement of behavior or target behavior in at least two conditions, namely baseline conditions (A) and intervention conditions (B). The intervention used in this case is cognitive-behavioral play therapy, which is characterized by achieving goals with direct instruction and is based on the theoretical framework of cognitive and behavioral therapy with an approach to the child's developmental needs. This intervention was carried out in 5 sessions over 5 consecutive weeks. Research data was collected using behavioral observation and interview techniques and analyzed using visual inspection techniques. The results of the intervention showed that there was a decrease in the number of opposing behaviors at school (from an average of 8 opposing behaviors to 1 behavior) and at home (from an average of 10 opposing behaviors to 2 behaviors). This research proves that cognitive-behavioral play therapy can reduce the amount of oppositional behavior in child subjects.
