Abstract:
Research on raspberry production in greenhouses has concentrated on various aspects of dormancy, and ways to overcome it so that cultivars can be scheduled to produce fruit throughout the year. Also, the flowering-type of the cultivars (summer-bearing vs. fall-bearing (autumn-fruiting)) has a profound influence on the production system used. However, to maximize fruit production, understanding of these aspects, the physiology of the raspberry, are needed. This paper reviews, existing knowledge in raspberries on flower initiation and dormancy, and suggests areas where further research is needed to increase productivity in greenhouses.
