Abstract:
More than 250 peach accession were studied in pre-selection in-situ, within the indigenous pupulations of "vineyard peach". Of them only 35 selections were chosen for further comparative studies.

The following results were obtained in 1987–1990 and are referred to tree, fruit and stone traits of selected "vineyard peach". Then, growth of selected seedlings and the behavior of cv Redhaven budded on them as rootstocks were investigated in the nursery.

Some peach trees of various vigor in-situ were not infected by Taphrina deformans and without attack of Myzus persicae (Sel. 11, 16, 24, 26, 27, 29). Some of them are grown on the calcareous soils, but have not expressed leaf chlorosis (Sel. 30, 31, 32, 33, 35).

Fruit weight of selected peaches may be classified into six groups which vary from 15.8 g (Sel. 17) to 68.7 g (Sel. 11). Flesh colour is white and without red colour around the stone (Sel. 13, 15, 16, 18, 26, 27, 28, 29) and also yellow colour and without red colour around the stone (2, 3, 6, 10, 11, 23, 24) and others are also white and yellow fleshed but with red colour around the stone. Fruit flavour is typical of "vineyard peach" (Sel. 1, 7, 10, 13, 16, 22, 26, 28, 29) and with other ones it is similar to the flavour of cultivated peaches.

Seed germination ability under natural conditions varies from 54,9% (Sel. 21) to 96,1% (Sel. 2). Production of seedlings ranges from 41,0% (Sel. 20) to 85, 4% (Sel. 28).

Maiden trees were obtained from 85% (Sel. 17) to 100% (Sel. 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 15) and the absence of lateral shoots to the height of 20 cm above the ground varied from 23,08% (Sel. 13) to 84,21% (Sel. 8).
