De Steekproef bv heeft in juni 2019 een archeologische begeleiding uitgevoerd in het plangebied Terhornseweg 6 in 't Zandt, gemeente Loppersum, provincie Groningen. De aanleiding voor het onderzoek is de voorgenomen bouw van een nieuwe schuur en de demping van een bestaande sloot. Het onderzoeksgebied bestond uit de funderingssleuven en poergaten voor deze nieuwe schuur en de sloot tussen de nieuwbouw en de Terhornseweg. Uit een eerder uitgevoerd bureauonderzoek werd duidelijk dat er een middeleeuwse (huis)wierde in het plangebied aanwezig is. Omdat de graafwerkzaamheden die tijdens de aanleg plaatsvonden aanwezige archeologische waarden konden vernietigen, zijn deze uitgevoerd onder archeologische opgraving conform BRL SIKB 4000, protocol 4004 variant Archeologische Begeleiding. Tijdens het onderzoek is gebleken dat in het plangebied ophogingslagen van de huiswierde aanwezig zijn. De wierde lijkt in één keer te zijn opgeworpen. Alle sporen zijn door deze ophogingslagen heen gegraven en bestaan uit kuilen, sloten en een ingegraven ton. De sporen kunnen worden gedateerd vanaf de late middeleeuwen tot en met de nieuwe tijd. In het noordwestelijk deel van het plangebied zijn drie sterk op elkaar lijkende kuilen gevonden. In één van deze kuilen is een fragment van een laatmiddeleeuwse kloostermop gevonden. Mogelijk zijn de kuilen laatmiddeleeuws, maar aangezien kloostermoppen vaak werden hergebruikt kan een jongere datering niet worden uitgesloten. In het zuidelijk deel zijn enkele gedempte sloten gevonden die in de nieuwe tijd kunnen worden gedateerd. Van de te dempen sloot is de uitgebaggerde grond op 27 februari 2020 op de archeologische resten gecontroleerd. Hierbij is niks gevonden.

Vanwege de beperkte omvang van de bodemingrepen kon slechts worden vastgesteld dat in het plangebied ophogingslagen aanwezig zijn uit de late middeleeuwen. Indien in de toekomst opnieuw graafwerkzaamheden in of aansluitend aan het plangebied worden uitgevoerd, wordt geadviseerd voorafgaand of tijdens deze graafwerkzaamheden opnieuw archeologisch onderzoek uit te laten voeren. Er kunnen namelijk meer archeologische resten verwacht worden die een bijdrage kunnen leveren aan de kennis van het verleden.
