摘要
存储系统是计算机的核心,在人工智能、大数据、云计算和物联网等新兴战略产业的可持续发展中起着重要作用。随着处理器和网络设备性能不断提高,存储软件栈成为限制数据密集型系统性能的主要因素。近年来,新型存储设备因其打破“内存墙”的能力而受到广泛关注。这些设备包括支持块寻址的闪存设备、支持字节寻址的非易失性存储器、存算一体化设备以及大容量光存储。构建高吞量、低延迟和高可靠性的大规模存储系统,需要对算法、软件设计和硬件的持续创新。这些创新可以应对大规模、高性能复杂结构系统构建中存在的挑战,还可以增加相关系统的构建和应用经验,加快大数据处理系统的开发速度。
研究人员一直致力于解决“内存墙”问题,并改进相关软硬件生态系统,从而在新型存储系统设计和应用方面取得很大进展,包括但不限于以下方面:

不断推出和优化新型存储设备,例如开放通道固态盘、可字节寻址的非易失性存储器以及存算一体化设备。此外,陆续推出模拟器、仿真器和软件定义设备开发平台,促进了新型存储设备的设计和优化。

现有存储软件系统最初为硬盘或传统固态硬盘而设计,不能充分发挥新型存储设备性能潜力。针对新型存储设备,设计了许多新型文件系统、存储管理软件、非关系型数据库以及关键组件。

利用新型存储设备加速应用求解(如组合优化问题)和提升传统存储系统(如基于机械硬盘的纠删码存储)性能。 在此背景下,《信息与电子工程前沿(英文)》期刊组织了本期“新型存储系统设计与应用”专题。专题涵盖针对新型存储设备的辅助设计工具、各种存储软件、方法与相关应用,以及对新型存储系统前沿进展和未来研究方向的综述。经严格评审,选入7篇论文,包括1篇综述和6篇研究。

Guangyan ZHANG is an associate professor and PhD advisor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University. He received his BS and MS degrees in computer science from Jilin University, Changchun, China, in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and his PhD degree in computer science and technology from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2008. He is a professional member of ACM and a distinguished member of CCF. His research interests include big data computing, network storage, and distributed systems.
Dan FENG is a professor and dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China. She received her BE, ME, and PhD degrees in computer science and technology from HUST in 1991, 1994, and 1997, respectively. She has more than 200 publications in major journals and international conferences, including IEEE TC, IEEE TPDS, IEEE TCAD, ACM-TOS, FAST, USENIX ATC, ISCA, EuroSys, HPDC, SC, ICS, DAC, and DATE. She has served as a reviewer of multiple journals, including IEEE TC and IEEE TPDS, and in program committees of multiple international conferences, including ATC 2023, FAST 2022, SC 2011 & 2013, MSST 2012 & 2015, and SRDS 2020. She is a member of IEEE and ACM. Her research interests include computer architecture, non-volatile memory technology, distributed and parallel file systems, and massive storage systems.
Keqin LI is a SUNY Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the State University of New York. He is also a National Distinguished Professor at Hunan University, China. He has authored or co-authored over 900 journal articles, book chapters, and refereed conference papers. He has received several best paper awards. He is among the world’s top five most influential scientists in parallel and distributed computing in terms of single-year and career-long impacts based on a composite indicator of the Scopus citation database. He is a fellow of AAAS, IEEE, and AAIA, and a member of Academia Europe (academician of the Academy of Europe). His research interests include cloud computing, fog and mobile edge computing, energy-efficient computing and communication, embedded and cyber-physical systems, heterogeneous computing systems, big data computing, and high-performance computing.
Zili SHAO is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. He received his BE degree in electronic mechanics from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1995, and his MS and PhD degrees from the Department of Computer Science, University of Texas at Dallas, Dallas, TX, USA, in 2003 and 2005, respectively. His research interests include big data and storage systems, embedded software and systems, and related industrial applications.
Nong XIAO is a professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. He received his BS and PhD degrees in computer science from the College of Computer, National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), Changsha, China, in 1990 and 1996, respectively. His research interests include network parallel computing, large-scale storage systems, and computer architecture.
Jin XIONG is a professor at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. She received her PhD degree from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2006. She is a member of ACM and IEEE and a senior member of CCF. Her research interests include storage and file systems.
Weimin ZHENG is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He received his MS degree from Tsinghua University in 1982. He is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. His research covers distributed computing, compiler techniques, and network storage.
