이 연구의 목적은 <언어에 대한 이해> 교과목 개발을 위해 교양교육으로서의 교과목의 목표를 분명히 하고 교육 내용과 방법론을 구체화하는 것이다. 지금까지 대학의 교양교육을 위한 연구는 다각도로 이루어져 왔는데, 기초교육영역에 비해 심화교양교육을 위한 연구는 상대적으로 매우 부족한 편이다. 이 연구를 통해 심화교양교육의 교과목 개발에 필요한 사항들을 점검하고, 다양한 쟁점들을 검토해 나가면서 체계적인 심화교양교육 설계 및 교과목 개발에 대한 연구를 진행하고자 하였다. 대학 교양 교과목 중 심화교양교과목 개발을 위해 먼저 현재 개설되어 운영되고 있는 언어 관련 교과목에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 위해 서울대학교, 연세대학교와 고려대학교의 심화교양영역의 교과목 개설 현황을 비교 분석하여 특성을 추출하고, 장단점을 분석하였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구가 중점을 두고 있는 규모의 대학에 적절한 <언어에 대한 이해>의 교육 목표와 내용 그리고 교육 방법이 무엇일지 제안하였다. <언어에 대한 이해> 교육 내용이 체계성을 갖추도록 하기 위해서 본 연구가 취하고 있는 방법은 첫째 교육 내용의 중심이 언어학이 아니라 언어 자체가 되어야 한다는 것이고, 둘째 자료로서의 언어에 초점을 맞추면서 언어를 통해 세상과 인간을 이해할 수 있다는 거시적인 목표를 달성하도록 하였다. 아울러 언어에 대한 거시적이고 추상적 이해에서부터 출발하여 구체적인 언어 자료적 특징을 제시하여 구체적인 언어 자료의 실질적 활용 방안으로 이행하는 방법을 추구함으로써, 학생들이 이러한 체계 아래에서 교육 내용을 따라올 수 있도록 설계하였다. 이 연구를 기점으로 ‘언어, 언어학’ 분야에서 심화교양교육을 위해 어떤 교육 내용이 적절한지에 대한 연구 및 토론이 활발히 일어나길 기대한다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the goals of the subject as general education and to clarify the contents and methodology of the education in order to develop the subject < Understanding Language >. So far, the researches for general education in universities have been done in various ways, but compared to the basic general education area, the researches for advanced general education are relatively lacking. Through this study, we examined the problems necessary for the development of the subjects of the advanced general education and did a systematic study on the design of advanced general education and the development of the subject by reviewing various issues. Among the subjects of general advanced education at universities, languagerelated subjects were analyzed. For this purpose, the current circumstances of the curriculum of Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University were compared and analyzed to extract characteristics and to analyze the pros and cons of each school. Based on these findings, the study suggested what the goals, content, and methods of education would be appropriate for universities of scale where the study focuses. The suggestions to develop systematic education contents are as follow. First, the focus of the educational content should be language itself, not linguistics, and secondly, the macro goal of understanding the world and human beings through language is achieved by focusing on language as materials. In addition, it was designed to allow students to follow the instructional content under these systems by pursuing a method that starts with a macroscopic and abstract understanding of language and implements specific language data features to be implemented as a practical use method for specific language materials. Based on this research, I hope to actively research and discuss what education contents are appropriate for advanced culture education in the field of Language and Linguistics.
