Die Kristallstruktur und die Verzwillingung von RbAlSiO4

Abstract

Crystals of the compound RbAlSiO4 were synthesized hydrothermally. The space group is Pc21n with the lattice dimensions a = 9.226, b = 5.337 Å, c = 8.741 Å and Z = 4. All crystals are triple twins with twinning-planes (110) and (130). A structural interpretation is given.

The crystal structure of the pseudohexagonal RbAlSiO4 has been determined and refined by the least-squares method to an R index of 2.6% considering extinction and using 370 three-dimensional diffractometer data.

RbAlSiO4 is composed of an ordered Si, Al framework with channels of six-membered rings in direction of the c axis. These cavities contain the Rb cations. The crystal structure is derived from the type of tetrahedral framework with the symmetry Icmm. The mean values of the cation-oxygen distances are Si–O = 1.618 Å and Al–O = 1.738 Å.
