Abstract
In this paper I will show Fichte’s stratified position toward Reinhold’s and Bardili’s Rational Realism (Section 1). After a general description of Reinhold’s criticism of Fichte, contained, above all, in the second issue of Reinhold’s Beyträge zur leichtern Uebersicht des Zustandes der Philosophie beym Anfange des 19. Jahrhunderts (Section 2), I will try to highlight Fichte’s public rejection of Rational Realism as found in Fichte’s review of Bardili’s Grundriß der Ersten Logik and in his Antwortsschreiben an Herrn Professor Reinhold published in 1800 and 1801 (Section 3). I will then discuss the assimilation of the basic elements of realism in the Wissenschaftslehre from 1804 to 1807 (Section 4) and its instrumentalization in an anti-Schellingian sense (Section 5).
