Abstract
After his transition from his Elementarphilosophie to Fichte’s Wissenschaftslehre Reinhold was discredited by his opponents and looked upon as a ridiculous weathercock. I will show in my contribution that this verdict was unjustified: Reinhold never changed his basic position, even if he accepted Fichte’s first principle as the true principle of philosophy, at least for a short period. First, he never adopted a monistic point of view and adhered to dualism; second, despite of his knowledge of Fichte’s theory of solicitation, he accused the Wissenschaftslehre of subjectivism. Altogether, Reinhold never was an exponent of transcendental philosophy.
