Il punto di non ritorno

From the book Le lettere di Dante

  • Giuliano Milani

Abstract

The article raise issues concerning the most discussed features of Dante’s epistle XII to the “Florentine friend”: its date of composition, which is confirmed to be May 1315, its recipient, for whom it is cautiously suggested to take into account the hypothesis of someone close to the Dominican milieu of Santa Maria Novella, and the political context in which it was written, characterized by some favorable conditions for a possible readmission of the Whites. In light of these issues, I propose to consider this epistle as particularly tied to the accomplishment of Dante’s second cantica and to the first dissemination of the first.
