Abstract
A new process of formation of xenon excimers from xenon clusters in a quasi-cw jet discharge is experimentally verified. Xenon excimer emission characteristics show a strong correlation with those of xenon clusters produced in a supersonic gas jet. A xenon cluster density of more than 1016 cm−3 is obtained at the discharge point. The corresponding xenon excimer peak power at 174 nm is 300 mW, with a power conversion efficiency of 0.6%. This vacuum-ultraviolet emission lasts ~5 ms (FWHM).
