Measurement of the lifetimes of the z2F5/2, z2D3/2, z4G5/2, and y2D3/2 states of lanthanum

Abstract

The lifetimes of the 5d 6s (1D)6p z2F5/2, 5d 6s (1D)6p z2D3/2, 5d2(3F)6p z4G5/2, and 5d 6s (3D)6p y2D3/2 states of La i have been measured using time-resolved spectroscopy following excitation by a pulsed dye laser. The measured values for the lifetimes are 120 ± 6, 165 ± 8, 51 ± 4, and 18 ± 3 ns, respectively.
