This essay explores the rhetorical and political functions of literary form in Samuel Delany’s Times Square Red, Times Square Blue (1999). I argue that Delany crafts his text as a map guiding the reader through a sexually and socially diverse utopia in an effort to push back against conservative strains in gay politics and urban renewal of the 1990s.
