Research about Acupuncture Efficacy on Africans with Low Back PainChinese Full Text

Abstract: Objective:To explore the efficacy of acupuncture on Africans with low back pain.Methods:Patients with low back pain were divided into the acupuncture treatment group and the conventional therapy group randomly.The former was given the acupuncture plus infrared therapy,while the latter given the conventional drug treatment and massage therapy.Japanese Orthopedic Association（JOA）score of lumbar was used as an assessment to evaluate and compare the function before and after treatment.Results:There were no significant difference in the JOA score and the sub-categories between the two groups before treatment.After treatment,the JOA scores in the acupuncture group and conventional group increased by 10.8±1.6 and 7.9±1.8,which demonstrated the significant differences by P＜0.01.Except the clinical examination,the sub-categories of the symptoms,activities of daily living and the efficacy of acupuncture group were superior to those of the conventional therapy group（P＜0.01）.The development of JOA score was（77.0±20.1）% in acupuncture group,which was higher than that of the conventional group at（60.3±33.6）%（t=2.52,P=0.014）.Conclusion:The efficacy of acupuncture was better than the conventional treatment in Africans with low back pain.
